At this week’s Grand Ole Opry event, some guests nodded along and sang as Post Malone and Ashley McBryde honored country music legends. However, some netizens expressed disapproval of the performance, citing various reasons.
On March 19, 2025, Opry 100: A Live Celebration aired on NBC and Peacock TV, featuring a lineup of country musicians. Among them, Post Malone and Ashley McBryde took the stage to pay tribute to late industry legends.
NBC took to social media to share a clip of Post Malone and Ashley McBryde performing their rendition of Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash’s Jackson. Playing guitar as he sang, Malone sported a beige cowboy hat, white shirt, red jacket, blue jeans, and brown cowboy boots.
McBryde looked stunning in a black strapless floor-length jumpsuit as she held a microphone and sang along. However, not everyone was impressed. One Facebook user criticized the performance, writing, “Not a fan of Malone. Think they could’ve picked someone better. Sry [sic].”
Another critic called the performance “disrespectful to Johnny and June,” while someone else lamented, “They destroyed this great song. No one can fill Johnny and June’s shoes.”
One particularly disapproving commenter wrote, “Really, Post Malone? He is not country and cannot even carry a tune. He is not a member of the Opry. Others deserve to be there in his place. I hope he never becomes a member. [sic]”
While some appreciated the tribute, others felt Malone was not the right choice for the performance. Nonetheless, the event honored country music’s legacy with a star-studded lineup.
